Gestures in Human Space
Public Sculpture
April 11 2025I've been commissioned to create my first public sculpture—a large outdoor work for De Nederlandsche Bank's new sculpture garden in central Amsterdam. The installation is now complete and open to visitors!
My practice incorporates AI as a creative tool, using custom datasets of my previous works to generate foundations for new pieces. I'm fascinated by machinic ways of seeing and interpretation, exploring how AI translates my artistic language. I then bring back the physical dimension through hands-on sculpting and molding, creating a fluid dialogue between human intention and algorithmic unpredictability.
"Gestures in Human Space" embodies this approach—caught between movement and pause. Its pastel translucent surfaces invite viewers to circle it, offering multiple perspectives rather than a single orientation. The contours exist in a liminal space between abstraction and the bodily, suggesting muscle and structure beneath the surface.
By sharing the creative process with AI, I've discovered new sensitivity in my work. This surrender of control has enhanced my artistic intuition—creating a convergence of digital and analog that still carries the trace of my hand.
